Welcome to Hobo Inn Caboose Lodging

Hobo Inn Caboose Lodging offers a singular experience rooted in the romance of rail travel. Nestled in the small town of Elbe, Washington, this unique inn invites guests to stay in beautifully restored caboose cars, merging nostalgia with comfort. Each car is thoughtfully maintained, providing clean, air-conditioned rooms that captivate visitors seeking a retreat far from the ordinary.

The location itself enhances the charm. Just a short stroll from the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad & Museum, the inn is ideally placed for steam train enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Guests can choose from two scenic train rides, dine in the inviting restaurant car, and immerse themselves in the gentle hum of rolling rails at night. The nearby Alder Lake and Recycled Spirits of Iron Sculpture Park add layers to the experience, offering diverse activities after a restful stay.

Guest reviews consistently praise the clean and comfortable accommodations, attentive service, and inviting atmosphere. The king suite with a dual-person jetted tub stands out for couples wanting a cozy yet refreshing escape. While some have noted the dinner prices are on the higher side with occasional uneven culinary execution, the overall ambiance and hospitality more than compensate. Friendly staff and the owner’s visible presence contribute to a warm, welcoming vibe that echoes the inn’s commitment to quality.

Though the inn does not offer some modern conveniences like breakfast or a fitness center, the free Wi-Fi and ample parking underscore a practical approach to guest needs. The smoke-free and kid-friendly environment ensures a restful, family-oriented setting. However, it’s worth noting that accessibility accommodations and pet-friendliness are not available, emphasizing a quieter ambiance tailored for specific visitor preferences.

In essence, Hobo Inn Caboose Lodging is more than just a place to rest—it is a portal to a bygone era, wrapped in the scenic beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Its nostalgic charm, combined with an intimate scale and genuine hospitality, makes it a memorable stay for travelers drawn to history, railways, and nature’s tranquility.

For Steam Train foamers. Choose from two train rides, have a meal in the restaurant car and spend the night in one of the car wagons. The town has a population of 39 according to the 2020 census and since the day we went there was a wedding in the chapel, I can say we saw them all. Great place, we enjoyed it.

Super cool room!!! Very well put together. Bed was comfortable! Slept all night. Even with being a little short staffed, service was prompt and very friendly. We will be back for sure

Cute, clean, comfortable. Incredible staff, clean rooms and prompt service. We stayed in the suite with king bed and dual person jetted tub (caboose 6) Very clean room, jetted tub for two fit my 6’8” partner and myself uncomfortably, but that is no one’s fault. Still a great addition to our stay! Clean and comfortable rooms, excellent staffing, good food for dinner…. You’ll be quite happy and comfortable here. Do not miss the opportunity to stay here as the respite for your adventures!

My wife and I always get caboose #6 . Jacuzzi tub fits us both comfortably. Quiet, clean and relaxing. Food at the dinner car is delicious but pricey. The owner is always there and very attentive.

The Caboose we rented was great. The only negative part of this whole weekend was the diner. The food is way overpriced for what you get and and whoever the cook was on that particular evening is possibly the worse I've encountered. Wife had the rockfish and fries, fish was overdone to the point the meat was actually crunchy, fries were also way overdone. I had ordered liver and onions with mashed potatoes and the vegetable of the day was sliced carrots . Carrots were undercooked and cold mashed potatoes were ok barely enough gravy to cover them the one slice of liver was slightly overdone but not shoe leather definitely not worth the 29.??. We both ordered Bloody Marys absolutely worse I've had in my life if there was alcohol involved it was not evident also not worth the price .

In June 2025, we were visiting the Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State. It was raining throughout the day and the night, and we stopped to buy gas and use the covered parking. Across the street, there was the Hobo Inn Caboose Lodging, and it captured our attention and we took many photographs. The train cars are different colors and it looks like it is well-maintained facility and a fun getaway place for a vacation. In April 2024, we stayed overnight in a remodeled train car in a different state, and it was a great experience to enjoy non-typical overnight lodging. I would love to return to Mount Rainier National Park in the future, hopefully on a non-rainy day, and stay in the Hobo Inn Caboose Lodging.
